Iraq Shia Militia

Hashd al-Shaabi, known as the Popular Mobilization Forces, are a potent and partly brutal Shia-dominated militia created in 2014 following a fatwa of Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, Iraq’s most influential Shiite cleric. Success over ISIS in Iraq would be inconceivable without Hashdal-Shaabi, which picked up the gap left by the Iraqi Army, but they have been accused of massacring Sunni Iraqis.
